#StetPet Editorial Assistants
We want to meet your furry, feathered, scaly, and slimy editorial assistants and learn how they “help” you with your work! Every Wednesday, the Guild features a new #StetPet editorial assistant on our social media channels. #StetPet began in the summer of 2017 and has been keeping things cute ever since, featuring nearly 400 friends over the years!
A StetPet is an animal editorial assistant, but it’s also so much more than that. We love to see the usual canine and feline helpers, but we also accept unusual pets, wild animals, houseplants, and the occasional nonliving assistant.
#StetPet is open to any editor from anywhere. You don’t have to be a Guild member for your friend to earn all the virtual fame and ear scratches from the online editorial community!
Submit your #StetPet in one of the following ways:
Option 1: Email
Send via email to social@edsguild.org:
A photo (up to four) of your animal editorial assistant or assistants
Your pet's name
One sentence (up to 175 characters max) describing how they "help" (or hinder) your editing work
Your name and where you live
Links to any of your social media profiles (LinkedIn, Facebook, Bluesky, or Instagram if you want us to tag you (security settings permitting)
Option 2: Direct Message
Send a DM to the Guild on LinkedIn, Facebook, Bluesky, or Instagram with the info in Option 1. Please note that images often don’t come through in full resolution in DMs through Facebook and Instagram, so you may be asked to email your photos again. (Note: We no longer post to X (formerly Twitter)).
Option 3: #StetPet Hashtag (limited use)
Tag a pic of your editorial assistant using the #StetPet, #StetPets, or #StetPlant hashtags on Bluesky to be included in the #StetPet feed. Please note that depending on your security settings, we usually can’t see the #StetPet hashtag on your posts on LinkedIn, Facebook, or Instagram. Instagram no longer allows chronological searches of hashtags, so even if your post is public, we will likely miss it.
(Note: We no longer post to X (formerly Twitter), but you can still see past posts with the hashtag. We will not see it if you use the hashtag there.)
The best way to submit a photo of your buddy is by email or DM.

The following editorial assistants count as #StetPets:
Your own pets or “temporary” assistants that live with your friends or family that are with you for a short time.
Unusual pets such as rodents, fish, snakes, reptiles, and birds.
“Wild” assistants such as deer, birds, squirrels, or insects that give you a nice break from work.
Houseplants, as long as the plant has a name! (#StetPlant)
Other nonliving animal assistants that reside near your workspace such as rubber duckies or dinosaur figures, as long as they have names.
You don’t have to be a Guild member or live in the Pacific Northwest to submit a photo. #StetPets come from all over the world!
It’s fine to submit multiple #StetPets in the same photo.
You can submit a new photo to check in on your #StetPet (or a photo of a different #StetPet if you have multiple assistants) approximately three to four months after your assistant was last featured. We love repeat and longtime #StetPets!
You can submit a #StetPet memorial if your assistant has crossed the rainbow bridge and they deserve recognition for their years of hard work and friendship.
#StetPet started a full year and a half before #StetWalk began. They are separate but complementary hashtags meant to bring joy to the editing community! We may slightly enhance or crop your submitted photos, but will not make any major edits to them. We may blur any address or phone number that is clearly visible in a photo for your privacy.
